September 28, 2023 marks the first national day for Quebecers to check their smoke detectors. The day, which is an Ontario initiative, will also be held on the same date in other Canadian provinces.
The aim of the day is to create a ripple effect to encourage citizens to check their smoke detectors, and to raise awareness of good fire prevention practices.
When you think that people have less than three minutes to evacuate their burning homes, they need to be warned quickly by their smoke detectors. Checking smoke detectors is therefore an essential part of fire prevention. It's the best way to save lives!
